Holiday Shopping on Neurodiversity.com · 2008-11-11 10:00

With the holiday gift-giving season in mind, I’ve recently updated this site’s Amazon.com book listings to include most English-language books in print on autism and Asperger Syndrome, as well as many other titles on related subjects. (Most titles include the publishers’ description.) I’ve created new pages with recommended titles and DVDs and videos, including documentaries, instructional materials and drama featuring characters on the autistic spectrum. You’ll also find some fun new gift items, including activity, building and learning toys, art and crafts supplies, puzzles, cars and trains, and things that whirl, shine and spin.

  1. Okay, I love the new toy page, but didn’t you leave out something kind of…important?

  2. Thank you so much for this. We figured out very late (in his 40s) that my husband has Aspergers and I have been looking for books dealing with Aspergers in adults in vain. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  3. Yeah, that’s more like it! Thank you for your prompt attention to this important matter.

  4. Great toys for the young ASD child:

    Busy Ball Popper

    Rollipop and Rollipop Advanced

    I-Play Super Spiral Play Tower

All three of these involve balls that roll thru tunnels and/or fly up into the air. Very fun to watch! My son has always wanted/needed toys that “do something” (i.e., don’t require pretending), and these types of toys fit the bill.

  5. Mary Kay, I’m glad the book lists are helpful. I tried to be as complete as possible. There’s a growing body of literature on autism in adults and the needs and concerns of adults on the spectrum, but it can be a challenge to plow through hundreds of Amazon search returns. (That’s what I did to compile these lists.)

Bev and LBC, thanks for the great suggestions. I’ve added Squawkers McCaw to the Gifts page already, and will add the rolling ball toys to it, also.

  6. Is this this on your list?!

  7. I know this was a list for Xmas, but here’s something great my son got this year:
Wedgits. These are better than Legos, etc., for a kid who is impatient and easily frustrated (LOL!), yet still wants to build. The pieces are big ‘n’ chunky, and you can follow pictures to create towers. Very cool!

  8. This will be quite helpful for me, thanks!
